An Overview of Our EAP Model.

An Overview of Our EAP Model.
An Overview of Our EAP Model.

We work by a traditional 4-session (4 hour) EAP model that should generally proceed in the following manner:

  • The first 1-2 sessions are for assessment and creation of an action plan.
  • After those first sessions, if your assessment has determined that the client’s problem is appropriate for short-term problem resolution, you may finish the case under the EAP.
  • Alternately, if your assessment determines the problem is appropriate for longer term treatment, then an outside referral should be made. Generally, referral should occur after your first 1-2 assessment sessions, since counseling will most appropriately be done by the outside treatment provider. Please remember that it is preferred for all referrals to go to an outside treatment provider, as this keeps a clear boundary of services.
  • It is important that our clients know how their EAP benefit works from the outset. To support this, we will explain the EAP process during their intake call.  For us to partner well together, we ask that you reinforce this same information.  Please make sure you go over our Statement of EAP Services with a new client so that they understand the process.
  • Since no model fits 100% of cases, do not hesitate to call for consultation if you believe another course of action is needed.

Thank you for partnering with us to assist our clients in your area.  If you have any procedural questions, please contact us.  If you have any clinical concerns regarding a client, please let us know immediately.

As a rule, All Points does not pay for No Shows or cancellations. If a client does not show for 2 consecutive appointments, then the client should be referred back to All Points. At that time, All Points will assist the client with a referral outside of the EAP either through the client’s insurance or through private pay.

As a rule, All Points does not pay for the Case Management conducted on the part of the EAP Affiliate.  However, there are exceptions to this rule on a case by case basis.  If there is an inordinate amount of time spent on case management in a certain case, an Affiliate may call All Points to discuss reimbursement.  Please keep in mind that this is done on a case-by-case basis.  A request will not guarantee reimbursement, nor will the granting of a request necessarily warrant reimbursement for future requests.

The EAP Affiliate is the “expert” in their area on local community resources, including, but not limited to, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, substance abuse facilities, hospitals, and support groups. It is the responsibility of the Affiliate to discuss insurance coverage and referral options with each client that they are referring.  We request that the Affiliate call the referral sources to verify they are accepting new clients prior to giving the information to the client.  A follow up call with the client is recommended to verify that the referral was acceptable.

Can I refer the client to myself for counseling beyond their EAP sessions?

Can I refer the client to myself for counseling beyond their EAP sessions?

The EAP industry does not encourage self-referrals as a counselor could recommend additional therapy as a way of generating business for themselves, their group, or an organization where they have a financial interest.  All Points prefers the EAP Affiliate refer to other professionals or services covered by the client's insurance or in the community.  We recognize, however, that at times other resources may not be available or the client prefers to continue services with the Affiliate.  To ensure that the client is provided with sufficient options, All Points requires in all self-referral situations, the Affiliate offer two additional referrals, other than themselves or their group practice, before asking the client to sign a Waiver of Referral form.  A copy should be given to the client as well as sent to All Points with closing paperwork.
